Fjallabak Super Jeep | Day Tour | Midgard

Get deep into one of Iceland’s most beautiful areas called Fjallabak  Nature Reserve. This tour is for anyone who wants to get well off the  beaten track and experience remote volcanic wilderness.

Most Icelanders agree that Fjallabak is one of the greatest treasures  of the Icelandic highlands. A diverse color palette, spectacular  landforms, a unique but fragile ecosystem, desert wilderness and  peacefulness are few of the reasons why people are mesmerized by  Fjallabak.

There are so many interesting things to see in Fjallabak that it’s  not possible to see them all in one day. Like with all of our tours, we  don’t take the same route on every trip. For each trip we choose the  best route depending on road and weather conditions.

Possible sites include Mt. Mælifell which is one of  the most iconic mountains in Iceland. It’s easily recognized by its  shape, an almost perfect conical volcano covered in bright green moss.  It stands alone in a black ash desert called Mælifellssandur. Rauðibotn is an exceptionally beautiful crater. Inside there is a small emerald green lake surrounded by red rocks. Álftavatn is a stunning lake known for its birdlife. Hvanngil valley, Mt. Hattfell and Mt. Laufafell are no less impressive. Markafljótsgljúfur’s  technicolor glacial river canyon is magnificent. Waterfalls abound here  and the canyon’s stratified lava/ash layer walls are remarkably  striking. Torfahlaup is a beautiful spot at the beginning of the canyon. Mt. Hekla is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes with over 20 eruptions since 874. Mt. Einhyrningur is another iconic mountain that is easily recognized by its shape that  resembles a sleeping unicorn with a horn jutting out. It is situated  between Tindfjöll Glacier and Markarfljót river. Landmannalaugar is a geothermal oasis with many breathtaking sites close by such as Hnausapollur crater lake, Rauðaskál crater, Dyngjuleið and Dómadalur.

Please note: We want to emphasize that it’s not  possible to see all the sites above in one day. Based on weather  conditions we will choose the best route for the day and make sure you  have a wonderful time. Landmannalaugar is the most visited place in  Fjallabak. If you want to be sure to go there we do have a specific Landmannalaugar Day Tour.

Choose this tour if you want to go deep into the highlands, experience remote wilderness and go where most people don’t go!
